LOCAL-FIRST WORKFLOW

Local vs online image conversion: the difference is more than an upload button.

Online tools are convenient, but they place files, paths, and waiting time on a network path. A local desktop app keeps batch work and file control on your own device.

Key points

Start with where the file travels

Online conversion commonly sends a file from the browser to a remote service and then downloads the result. Even with a trustworthy service, file size, network conditions, and retention policy become part of the workflow.

ImgConvert performs conversion, compression, thumbnails, and queue management locally. It accesses only the files and directories you actively choose, or clipboard images you explicitly import.

When a local workflow fits better

When a batch is large, a connection is unreliable, material is not public, or the same output settings will be reused, a local queue removes repeated upload and keeps output, cancellation, and results in one workspace.

Local does not mean no local data. Preferences, temporary files, thumbnail cache, and result-cache records may live on the device. A clear tool explains what those records are and lets you clear or disable reuse you do not need.

Do not treat privacy as a vague marketing word

Evaluate an image tool by its upload behavior, accounts, third-party analytics, default metadata policy, and local cache. A precise boundary is more useful than a generic security label.

ImgConvert has no account system, ad SDK, behavioral-analytics SDK, or third-party tracking. It does not upload images by default and does not automatically preserve source metadata in output files. Metadata preservation is an explicit choice.

Common questions

Does local processing mean the app never connects to the internet?

Image conversion runs locally. Downloading the app or viewing releases uses the relevant network service, but selected images are not uploaded to ImgConvert servers.

What can a local app store?

Conversion preferences, temporary files, thumbnail cache, and result-cache records may be stored locally. Result-cache records contain hashes and file sizes for verification or reuse, not image bytes or file paths.

Are online tools always unsafe?

No broad claim is possible. The important question is the data path and terms. For sensitive material or large batches, local tools usually offer more direct file control.
